Description

Each Manhattan Locomotive Fine Art Print is individually hand-embellished by Miroslava Kettounen, who adds acrylic color, artist-marker details and fine hand-finished accents to bring additional depth, energy and character back into the printed image. Because every piece is finished by hand, no two prints are exactly alike.

Manhattan Locomotive presents Manhattan as a reflection of America itself — a city and a country moving through technological acceleration, transformation and major change.

When I began this work in 2021, I had a strong sense that a period of transformation was approaching. I imagined Manhattan as a vast living mechanism, like a locomotive that had already gained speed and was continuing to accelerate.

Over the past several years, that feeling has become increasingly visible through the development of artificial intelligence, new technologies, satellite launches, space projects and the speed at which everyday life itself is changing.

The red, fiery elements in the composition are connected in my mind with the speed of a locomotive — with sparks beneath its wheels, when movement becomes so intense that energy itself seems to turn into light.

This work is about the speed of transformation, technological progress in America and Manhattan as an image of a locomotive-country entering a future of new breakthroughs, change and development.

The original artwork was begun in 2021 and completed in 2022.

Using acrylic color, professional artist markers and detailed handwork, the artist selectively enhances elements of the composition, including color accents, lines and small architectural details.

The purpose is not to reproduce the original painting brushstroke by brushstroke, but to restore part of the depth, movement and physical energy of the original artwork to each Fine Art Print.

Because this process is completed individually by hand, each piece has subtle variations and becomes a unique artist-finished edition.

Every artwork is personally signed by the artist.
